Karavanya

Project Overview

Karavanya is Turkey’s first platform to combine caravan rental and campsite booking services. Designed to cater to both travelers and campsite owners, the project involved creating a seamless website for booking and renting, alongside an admin panel for managing listings and reservations. With user-friendly interfaces and intuitive navigation, Karavanya sets a new standard for outdoor adventure planning.

Design Brief

The project brief for Karavanya: Karavanya aimed to become the first platform in Turkey to offer both caravan rental and campsite booking services in one place, catering to the needs of both campsite owners and travelers. The project required the design of a dual-purpose digital platform: a website for travelers to discover and book campsites or rent caravans, and an admin panel for campsite owners to list and manage their properties and bookings. The user experience design focused on creating a seamless and intuitive process, enabling customers to make reservations effortlessly while providing campsite owners with tools to manage their listings efficiently. The platform sought to introduce an innovative approach in the sector, delivering a modern and user-friendly solution that met the expectations of both audiences.

Project Goal

The primary goal of the Karavanya project was to establish Turkey’s first integrated platform for caravan rental and campsite booking, delivering a seamless and user-friendly experience for travelers while empowering campsite owners with an efficient admin panel to manage their listings and reservations. By bridging the gap between these two user groups, the platform aimed to inspire outdoor adventures, foster user trust, and position Karavanya as a market leader in this niche.

Project Plan

At the outset of the design process, we conducted a thorough analysis of global reservation systems, focusing on international benchmarks to understand best practices and innovative features in similar platforms. This was followed by a detailed examination of hotel reservation processes in Turkey to draw parallels and adapt functionalities suitable for the local market. To address the specific needs of campsites, we reached out to Turkish campsite owners to gather firsthand insights about their challenges, preferences, and operational requirements. After consolidating this research, we held several analysis meetings with the client to refine the project’s direction and define key functionalities. Using wireframes as a foundation, we collaboratively finalized the platform’s structure and user flows, ensuring alignment with the client’s vision and user needs. With these critical steps completed, the design phase began, integrating all research findings to create a user-friendly, functional, and visually engaging platform.

Homepage Welcome Filters

Benchmark Analysis

As part of the analysis, I reviewed multiple benchmarks to identify the key information prioritized by similar platforms for homepage welcome filters. The focus was on understanding what details these platforms request from users to initiate their search or booking processes effectively. By examining their approaches, I analyzed the common and essential inputs, such as region or location, dates, type of accommodation, and number of people, which are typically requested to personalize and refine the search results. This research helped uncover patterns and best practices for creating intuitive and user-friendly filters that guide users seamlessly through the booking process. The findings served as a foundation for determining the most critical inputs to include in the homepage filters for the Karavanya platform.

The two key features of the website are campsite booking and caravan rental. To give equal importance to these features, a tab structure was designed, allowing users to seamlessly switch between the two options within the same hierarchy. On the homepage, users can navigate to customized pages for campsites or caravans by simply clicking on the respective tabs. This design ensures an intuitive and user-friendly experience, making it easy for visitors to access the specific service they are looking for while maintaining a balanced emphasis on both features.

Navigation

  • The header navigation was designed with a white background and implemented as a sticky element throughout the page to enhance accessibility.

  • Light tones from the brand’s color palette were used on the background, creating a sense of spaciousness and freshness.

  • On mobile devices, the hamburger menu was designed as a full-screen overlay, allowing sufficient spacing between clickable elements and minimizing accidental clicks.

  • Menu titles were paired with brand-colored arrows to enhance the sense of clickability and improve user interaction.

  • Social media icons and the contact number were placed at the bottom of the page in a contrasting color, creating a visually striking effect and improving accessibility.

Campsite Listing Page

  • The listing page was designed to meet the needs of various user segments, making it easy for them to find suitable campsites through intuitive filters like location, date, and accommodation type.

  • Key details such as campsite names, images, prices, and amenities like WiFi and electricity were prioritized and presented clearly, ensuring an organized and easy-to-scan layout.

  • Filters were strategically placed for easy access, allowing users to refine search results quickly and efficiently. Dynamic updates provided instant feedback, improving the overall browsing experience.

  • The layout was simple and intuitive, designed to cater to both new and experienced users. Accessibility features such as high contrast, touch-friendly elements, and logical navigation further enhanced usability.

  • The page was fully optimized for mobile devices, enabling users to seamlessly filter, sort, and view campsite details on smaller screens without any loss of functionality.

  • A clean and minimalistic design approach was adopted to avoid overwhelming users, highlighting the most important information and ensuring smooth navigation.

  • Visual and functional elements were crafted to create an engaging user experience, making it easy for users to compare options and make informed decisions.

  • Clear call-to-actions and an effortless navigation flow encouraged users to proceed with campsite bookings, enhancing conversion rates.

  • The structure was designed to be flexible and scalable, allowing for future enhancements or additional features based on evolving user needs.

Footer

  • The main navigation header was designed as a sticky element, accessible throughout the site, allowing for a more compact footer structure with information not included in the header.

  • Contact details, social media links, and legal texts were placed in the footer, following user expectations and habits.

  • To differentiate the footer from the page flow, a high-contrast color was used at the bottom of the page.

  • For SEO purposes, supplementary text was partially visible, with the option to display the full text via a "View More" button, ensuring the content didn't overwhelm the design.

  • A glass effect was applied to social media links and contact information, maintaining consistency with the overall design language of the site.
